As first reported by Chris Johnston, Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green has been suspended three games without pay for a high hit during Thursday’s night’s victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Green targeted the head with his forearm/elbow on the play against a defenseless Brett Connolly.
It is hard to blame Brendan Shanahan for taking this course of action. Green has had issues with the supplementary discipline system before, having been banned three games in January of 2010 for an elbow on then Florida Panthers forward Michael Frolik.

Green’s absence will certainly hurt the Caps as they drive for a playoff spot.
