Jason Chimera is the latest Washington Capital to set sail aboard the N.H.L Lockout Cruise, and is headed to the Czech Republic to play overseas. Chimera has agreed to a deal with HC Chomutov that allows him to return to North American when the lockout ends. He had stayed in Washington to be with his family, but now he’s joining former Caps player Milan Jurcina on the Czech team.
Here’s an update on our other, dearly missed players:
Alex Ovechkin is playing for Moscow Dynamo of the KHL with teammate Nicklas Backstrom. Ovechkin has 6 goals and 9 assists in 15 games. Last night, he helped Dynamo win a game in overtime with the game-winning goal. Backstrom currently has 4 goals and 2 assists in his 6 games with Dynamo, and also played a part in Dynamo’s win yesterday. Currently, Moscow Dynamo is tied with Lokomotiv Yaroslav for the top spot in the KHL.
Michal Neuvirth is home in the Czech Republic, playing with HC Sparta Praha of the Czech Extraliga. Neuvirth has won 2 out of 11 games and has a 3.37 GAA and a .908 save percentage.
Brooks Laich is playing in the Swiss League for the Kloten Flyers. Laich has 6 goals and 8 assists in his 15 games with Kloten (where he has apparently become a fan favorite, but who didn’t expect that?). Kloten is currently 7th in the Swiss League A.
Marcus Johansson is playing with BIK Karlskoga, in the Swedish Allsvenskan. Johansson has one goal in two games with Karlskoga.
Wojtek Wolski is playing for KH Sanok in the Polish league. In 3 games, Wolski has 1 assist with the team.
