Practice: Oct. 12

The Washington Capitals were on ice Wednesday for a practice following Tuesday’s off day as they prepare for their primetime showdown with the Penguins Thursday night.  Some notes from Kettler Capitals Iceplex:

Bruce Boudreau allowed a grand total of two games to try and get his top two lines to gel, as the head coach has already switched the right wings up.  Troy Brouwer and Mike Knuble swapped spots Wednesday, meaning Knuble was on the second line and Brouwer the first.  It’s an interesting prospect and one that certainly could prove to be fruitful, but I don’t think Knuble on the second line is maximizing his talent.

The other two lines remained the same from Monday night’s win: Ward-Laich-Chimera and Perreault-Halpern-Hendricks.  DJ King took rushes with the third line as an extra forward, and Jay Beagle filled that role on the fourth line.  All seven defensemen were present and accounted for, including John Erskine, who is rehabbing a shoulder injury.

Michal Neuvirth was missing from practice, which meant  that PR director Sergey Kocharov was the second goalie with Tomas Vokoun.  Neuvirth has, according to coach Boudreau, a lower body injury, and it is not known at this time if the goaltender will travel to Pittsburgh.

The Caps will fly to Pittsburgh Wednesday afternoon before their game Thursday night, which is scheduled for 7 PM.
