Washington Capitals defenseman prospect Joe Finley was suspended for two games by the ECHL for his hit on Cincinatti Cyclones RW Samson Mahbod. Finley, who is currently plying his trade for the South Carolina Stingrays, was teammates with Mahbod this season before a trade sent him to Ohio. The 6’7, 240-lb Finley has appeared in 18 ECHL games this season, posting 1 goal, 4 points, and 63 penalty minutes. The 23-year old Finley has also appeared in 7 games with the AHL Hershey Bears this season, posting 1 assist and 15 penalty minutes.
Finley, who was drafted by the Capitals in the first round of the 2005 NHL entry draft, has a history of discipline issues dating back to his time at the University of North Dakota, including attacking the Wisconsin Mascot and throwing a lawn mower. He was the subject of a Rock the Red interview last summer and is featured in Our Game.
