2010 -11 Capitals Awards Ceremony: Green Jacket Award

[Ed. Note: Mixed in with our presentation of actual NHL Awards (divied out to the 2010-11 Washington Capitals squad) the bloggers of Rock the Red have developed some awards of our own, which we will be sprinkling in occasionally. Anything to help a long offseason go by quicker, right?]

Continuing with our 2010 – 11 Capitals Awards Ceremony, the bloggers of Rock the Red would like to acknowledge the following award recipients which are not up for debate due to tangible results throughout the season. The Green Jacket Award is the other end of the spectrum from the +/- Award, and is awarded to the NHL player, having played a minimum of 60 games, who is the worst of the worst in the league in plus/minus statistics at the end of the regular season. The current holder of the Caps award is Joe Corvo at -4.  This year’s league-wide winner was Ottawa’s Chris Phillips at -35.

And the winner is…

This year’s winner:  Jason Chimera (-10)

Runners Up:  Boyd Gordon (-5) and Matt Bradley (-3). Honorable (?) Mention to Tyler Sloan who was -6, but only played 33 games.

Remember, all distinctions are awarded pretending that the Washington Capitals are the only team in the NHL and we are the sole voters in the PHWA.

Former Capitals Green Jacket holders: 1974-75 Bill Mikkelson (-82), 1978-79 Rick Green (-45)
