Late this afternoon Andy Strickland broke the news that the Washington Capitals traded prospect (and RtR BFF) Stefan Della Rovere for Left Winger tough guy DJ King, answering a question we pitted sometime last month. Here's what we've been able to gather about the newest Cap:

  • King was selected in the 6th round, 190th overall, by the St. Louis Blues in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft
  • He has played in 101 Career NHL games, all with the Blues and has notched 4 goals and 9 points, while accumulating 185 PIM
  • Checking the tale of the tape, King tips the scales at 6' 3", 230 pounds
  • King signed a two-year extension before the trade

I think its a good fit and for a good deal. I miss Brash and I think we need a little extra bad-assery, not too much just a pinch and King could add that. I think it was a good move for SDR too. he'd have a better shot at more ice time. Caps and Bears have so much depth it would be hard for him to get ice time.

I liked SDR a lot but he seemed to top out in talent. This way we get a player with NHL experience, AND a nasty right hook.

I'm not going to lie. It hurts losing SDR. I had these crazy dreams of him skating alongside Pinizzotto & Joudrey in Hershey.

That being said - the bad-assery was needed in Washington, and losing prospects to improve the big club is an expected pain that comes along with AHL fandom.

On another note. Really? Another year of Boyd Kane? What does he have on Doug Yingst that he continues to return?

So we traded a player with little tangible hockey skill for one with less? Hope King has a good iPod playlist with all the time he'll spend in the press box as a HS.
