Hangover #67: Caps 4 Canes 3 (OT)

In the fourth game of the Caps five game home-stand, the boys faced those pesky Hemroidicanes of Carolina. The Roids have played the Caps tough all year, being the only real competition in the division. The Caps and the Canes split the last 14 meetings until now as the Caps drop the Canes for the third time this year in OT.

The Great: Tomas Fleischmann nets the game winner in OT.

The Good:

Mike Green was hot on the power play prowl with his two tallies on the man advantage as the power play goes 2 for 4 for the night. Hellavah better than our season average of 25%.

Brooks Laich played like a man on fire leading the Caps in shots with 5.  He was even for the night and an assist to boot. Good on ya mate.

Nicky Backstrom becomes the 3rd player in NHL history to reach 55+ assists in his first three seasons, joining the Gretzky and Stasnty. How Swede it is indeed…

Jose Theodore..Do I need to say more than the stop on the penalty shot and his performance in the third. Overall, No Way Jose stopped 28 of 31 and earns the team 2 more points.

The Bad:

Knuble, Backstrom, Ovie, Green and Schultz all finished in the negative side on the +/-. In fact Semin was the only one in the positive finishing +1.

Really dumb penalties. A hooking, a holding, a interference, a clipping, a slashing and a Penalty Shot. Thank goodness for Jose Shut-the-door who surrendered 1 goal on the man disadvantage.

The Ugly:

The Defense. Where should we begin, the soft play, lack of physicality and non existent fore check.  On a lighter note the boys did a more noble attempt at blocking shot with their bodies.Luckily Jose stood on his head in the third stopping all 10 shots on net.

And the icing on the cake – MG52 falling down after an attempt to triple lutz after his first goal. I think he is trying to get the attention of Canadian Figure Skater Joanie Rochette. Careful Green, Brooks might get jealous.

Congrats to Green for being the first this year to receive the Good, Bad and Ugly for a single game, earning himself a trip to the Palm and being forced to give it to Flash. Sorry.
